Lorijo Metz lives with her husband and little brown dog in a small town in Indiana. Though she has a degree in acting and directing, she much prefers the anonymity of the keyboard, allowing her characters to revel in the spotlight while she sits quietly sipping tea or coffee, nibbling on cookies, and dreaming up ways to complicate their lives. She is the author of Floridius Bloom and the Planet of Gloom, illustrated by Matt Phelan and published by Dial Books for Young Readers; as well as over 30 nonfiction, educational books for kids, published by Powerkids Press. WHEELS is her first middle grade novel and first venture into self-publishing. The book review site, Pocketful of Books, called WHEELS “Brilliant” and said, “It is one I know I’ll re-read, which isn’t something I say about a lot of books.” SFNetcast picked WHEELS as its June, Indie book of the month. In 2013, Lorijo made her début as a lyricist on Owen Duggan’s newest children’s cd, Puppy Dog Jig, for which she wrote the lyrics for the title track.

According to Amazon… The Book of Awesome reminds us of all the little things we often overlook but that can make us smile: Wearing underwear just out of the dryer, when the vending machine gives you two things instead of one, popping bubble wrap, bakery air, returning to your warm and comfy bed after getting…
When I turned 30-years-old, I surrendered to the fact that I was never going to have the body of a super model. No matter how much I exercised, or how little I ate, at my lowest possible weight, I would still have big hips. Ironically, that’s when I started to like how I look. Some…
Our most vivid memories seem to be about either the worst or best of times. But what about random, strange memories? Memories of moments that seem to have had little impact on our lives, yet like snapshots posted permanently on the bulletin board of our mind, are up for examination any time we want. I…
The first personal growth book I ever read was “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. My dad gave it to me and I’m sure had no idea what a profound impact it would have on my life. My dad also probably had no idea that his only daughter would grow up…

The first time it hit me how much technologies like Skype are reshaping our world, was when my cousin moved to Australia to marry the man of her dreams. I can only image how difficult her decision was, and yet, so much less difficult than it would have been thirty years ago. Why? Because technologies…
That’s right! According to a study, people who subscribe to my blog live longer. (at least, I don’t think anyone has died.) A few days ago I opened up one of my favorite magazines and turned to a page entitled: action plan. There were several items on the page including a picture of potted plants…
Strange how we’re all connected, yet unconnected at the same time. Was it only one week ago an earthquake, on a scale most of us had never imagined, hit Japan—then the tsunami and the threat of a nuclear meltdown? Like many, I spent the last few days either watching TV or checking the internet, waiting…
“If You Could Bring Back One Famous Person, Who Would It Be?” is actually a blog prompt I recently received and immediately rejected because, well, it seemed rather pointless. It felt like one of those writing prompts they hand out in high school creative writing classes. i.e. *If you could be any fruit, what would…
