Lorijo Metz lives with her husband and little brown dog in a small town in Indiana. Though she has a degree in acting and directing, she much prefers the anonymity of the keyboard, allowing her characters to revel in the spotlight while she sits quietly sipping tea or coffee, nibbling on cookies, and dreaming up ways to complicate their lives. She is the author of Floridius Bloom and the Planet of Gloom, illustrated by Matt Phelan and published by Dial Books for Young Readers; as well as over 30 nonfiction, educational books for kids, published by Powerkids Press. WHEELS is her first middle grade novel and first venture into self-publishing. The book review site, Pocketful of Books, called WHEELS “Brilliant” and said, “It is one I know I’ll re-read, which isn’t something I say about a lot of books.” SFNetcast picked WHEELS as its June, Indie book of the month. In 2013, Lorijo made her début as a lyricist on Owen Duggan’s newest children’s cd, Puppy Dog Jig, for which she wrote the lyrics for the title track.
Inspiration comes from the strangest of places. Sometimes, however, no matter how inspired the initial idea, the creative juices don’t flow. Yesterday, I was working on a scene from my novel, and suddenly the scene began to feel forced and, before I knew it, I’d lost touch with my main character. No matter how hard…
It’s 7:30 pm on the night before my Thursday blog post. I have a subject I’m dying to write about. However, because I want to do it well, I’m not going to write about it tonight (I’m tired and I want to watch Modern Family). Which is not to say, don’t waste your time on…
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, communication is “a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior.” A common system? Given the billions of humans on Earth and the variety of physical environments, governments, social classes and religions in which we grow up, is it any wonder that…
I had planned to blog about a truly universe-sized pondering today. As I am posting rather late in the day, however, and I’m going to want feedback on that particular post, I’ve decided to blog about something rather insignificant. And yet, it still kind of blows my mind! I’m talking about how many ways there…
Photo courtesy of: www.smosh.com As I lay in bed contemplating the next day’s post, absentmindedly checking my email via the dimly lit screen of my iPhone, it occurs to me: Are so busy trying to keep up with technology we no longer have time for warm-blooded, real live relationships? I roll out of bed; I…
It’s been one of those days. A bit stressful, a bit hurried… you understand. According to Merriam-Webster being shallow means: Having little extension inward or backward. Penetrating only the easily or quickly perceived. Lacking in depth of knowledge, thought, or feeling. Displacing comparatively little air. Displacing comparatively little air? Is it me, or does being shallow…
I’m reading a book about a woman who gets transported 200 years in the past. She’s a nurse from the 1940’s who has spent several years tending to war victims. Truthfully, I have issues with this book—on sooooo many levels. However, for its genre, it is well written… I guess. Okay, I’ll admit, it’s a…
As the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Yet, how often do we decide to change something that, to all extent and purposes, was perfectly fine in the first place? What led me to ponder this? My hair! I had what every girl dreams of, the perfect hairstyle. It was easy to…
We all have our little fantasies. I’m not talking about the sexual kind… although, we have those too. No, the fantasies I’m referring to fall along the lines of winning the lottery. You know, the one where you win the lottery and then fantasize about all the ways you’re going to spend the money. I…
