Lorijo Metz lives with her husband and little brown dog in a small town in Indiana. Though she has a degree in acting and directing, she much prefers the anonymity of the keyboard, allowing her characters to revel in the spotlight while she sits quietly sipping tea or coffee, nibbling on cookies, and dreaming up ways to complicate their lives. She is the author of Floridius Bloom and the Planet of Gloom, illustrated by Matt Phelan and published by Dial Books for Young Readers; as well as over 30 nonfiction, educational books for kids, published by Powerkids Press. WHEELS is her first middle grade novel and first venture into self-publishing. The book review site, Pocketful of Books, called WHEELS “Brilliant” and said, “It is one I know I’ll re-read, which isn’t something I say about a lot of books.” SFNetcast picked WHEELS as its June, Indie book of the month. In 2013, Lorijo made her début as a lyricist on Owen Duggan’s newest children’s cd, Puppy Dog Jig, for which she wrote the lyrics for the title track.
John Guy Collick’s novel, Thumb, takes place on what its characters literally consider the body of God. More specifically on, “A flat singularity (carrying) the unfinished body of God through an empty universe.” The inhabitants of Collick’s universe not only live on this colossal body of God, they are also its architects and builders. The…
You thought November was all turkeys and parades, but I’m telling you now, November is Sci-Fi Month! So… Throw an alien in the pot and add some spaceships to that parade! As some of you know, I like science fiction. (Maybe my twitter name gave it away?) Anyway, I’m not a scientist, nor did I grow…
The audiobook industry is booming. As the demand for audiobooks increases, so does the need for talented narrators. Think you have what it…
In 2011, when I began my blog, I called it Searching4Meaning. I chose that title because, honestly, I wasn’t sure what I was going to write about. However, exploring ideas I’d been thinking about, or ideas I would eventually about, at least gave me a place to start. (Ideas like… creativity and happiness!) Here it…
After vowing to join my significant other on more business trips, I find myself posting from Washington D.C. this week. Timing is everything—right? So, along with other tourists, I will not be visiting the Lincoln Memorial, nor will I be viewing the cute baby panda on the Smithsonian National Zoo’s panda cam. 🙁 That said,…
Mental Health Awareness Week in the United States begins the first Sunday in October. Help us break the stigma of mental illness. A large percentage of people in our world continue to view mental illness as a choice or a dirty little secret. When someone with a mental illness commits a crime, suddenly everyone with…
The following is a guest post written by author, Jade Kerrion SERIES: To Be or Not To Be (and when to stop being…) The Double Helix Series If Amazon (the company) were a river and all the books in its vast online repository were drops of water, you wouldn’t be able to skim a pebble…
When my husband and I decided to pack up our things and move, I knew at some point I’d face a period of loneliness. The decision to move had everything to do with what type of house we saw ourselves living in, taxes, and family responsibilities. It had nothing to do with needing new friends.…
True Confession #1 My talented, lovely…and only daughter is in town for a visit. As such, I was thrilled when she agreed to wake up early to join Henry (our dog) and me on a walk to the coffee shop. Time alone with my favorite daughter—what could be better? And yet, as I secured the…
